Week-long monodrama festival ends today

With the staging of theatre production ‘Amar Ami’, the week-long monodrama festival will come to an end today at Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of the Bangladesh Mahila Samiti in the capital’s Baily Road area.

Chattogram-based prominent theatre troupe Nandimukh’s monodrama ‘Amar Ami’ features the life of nineteenth century theatre actress Binodini Dasi. Based on Binodini Dasi’s autobiography, the play is the 14th production of the troupe which has been written and directed by Ashim Das.

The play ‘Amar Ami’ depicts Binodini Dasi’s rise to fame as one of the earliest female theatre actresses of Bangla theatre in the second half of the nineteenth century, and her abrupt decision to quit the theatre. Nandimukh actress Dipta Rakhsit enacts the character of Binodini Dasi in the monodrama.

The week-long monodrama has been organised by Bangladesh Mahila Samiti in cooperation with Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation and patronised by the Cultural Affairs Ministry of Bangladesh.

Noted theatre personality Ferdousi Mazumder inaugurated the festival on March 1, while former cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor was present on the occasion as the chief guest.
