The High Court (HC) yesterday sentenced a staff of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) to 11-year imprisonment in a graft case lodged over destroying or hiding 57 official files. A High Court division bench comprising Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam passed the order, accepting an appeal of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) against a lower court judgement that had acquitted RAJUK steno clerk Md Shafiullah from the charges.
“Shafiullah had misused his authority with evil intention and destroyed or hide 57 files regarding permission to raise buildings. ACC filed the case against him with Motijheel Police Station on October 10, 2013. But the Special Judges Court-7 on November 21, 2017, acquitted the culprit from the charges,” deputy attorney general AKM Amin Uddin Manik told BSS.
The ACC after the order filed an appeal with the High Court on April 7, 2018. After hearing the appeal, the HC sentenced the RAJUK staff. The court also ordered him to surrender before a lower court within 15 days.
