Police yesterday arrested four persons along with 700 gold bars weighing around 71.6 kg and worth Tk30.85 crore in separate drives in CRB Railway area and Sonarphar area under Zorarganj police station in the port city Chattogram. In the morning at around 11am Detective Branch (DB) of Police detained two people along with 100 gold bars weighing around 11.660 kg and worth about Tk4.45 crore after searching a private car in Railway CRB area of the city. The duo was identified as Karim Shah and Rakib.
Meanwhile, Zorarganj police also arrested two more persons along with 600 gold bars at Sonaphar of Zorarganj area in the city. The gold bars weighing around 60kg and worth about Tk26.40 crore,” said police. They were identified as Labu Shah, 59, son of Polash Shah of Nitaiganj village under Narayanganj district and Md Bilal Hossain, 30, son of Hashem Sowdagor of Shidal Pur village under Shariatpur district.
In a press briefing at DB police headquarters in Chattogram SM Mostain Hossain, deputy commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police said, “Acting on tip off in the city’s CRB area 100 gold bars were seized after searching a private car. The passengers of the car hid the gold bars in a belt of their bodies. In the primary interrogation they said they were taking the gold bars to Dhaka.”
Ifterkhar Uddin, Officer-in-charge of Jorarganj police station said, “In a drive in Sonarphar area they seized 600 gold bars from the possession of the two passengers of a private car. In the primary interrogation they said they were taking the gold bars to Dhaka from Chatotgram Railway station.”
