Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said the government will observe a one-minute ‘blackout’ across the country at 9 pm on March 25—the day when the Pakistan army carried out atrocities in 1971. However, establishments of emergency services, key point installations (KPIs) and transport services will remain out of the purview of the programme, the home minister told reporters after emerging from a meeting on law and order at the home ministry yesterday.
For the third time in the country, the government is going to observe the programme as the Jatiya Sangsad (unanimously adopted a resolution on March 11, 2017, to observe March 25 as ‘Genocide Day’. Kamal sought the cooperation of all in observing the day in a befitting manner.
The minister said steps have been taken to maintain security at the National Martyrs' Memorial in Savar, Martyred Intellectual Memorial in Rayerbazar and Suhrawardy Udyan.
