Two killed in road accident
BARISAL: Two students were killed in a road accident in Rahamatpur area on Barisal-Dhaka highway under Airport police station of Barisal metropolitan yesterday morning. The victims were identified as Sazzal Hosen, 16 and Al-Amin, 16. Both the victims passed the SSC examinations this year from Athipara High School. Sub Inspector Md Halim of Airport police station, said Sazzal and Al-Amin were returning their home from the Barisal city by a motorcycle at 11:30am yesterday morning. When they are crossing the Rahamatpur area, a cattle-laden truck hit them from the behind. Both were died on the spot. Police and local people rescued them and sent them to Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital for autopsy. Truck driver was managed to flee from the spot. A case will be lodged with highway police station, the police sources said.
Two robbers held with firearm
BARISAL: Police arrested two alleged robbers from Krishnakati village under Bakerganj upazila of the district on Saturday midnight. The arrested dacoits are Shahadath Hossain 50, and Sukkur Hawlader 32. Both of them hails from Krishnakati village under Bakerganj upazila. Police also seized one shooter gun, four rounds of bullets and sharp weapons from their possession. Officer in Charge (OC) of Bakerganj police station Anwar Hossain said a case was filed against them in this
connection. He said several cases are pending against them with different police stations of the district.
Art exhibition begins today
A 15-day group art exhibition of Waterless Lithography technique tiled ‘Remixing Illusion’ of 24 artists of Chittagong Institute of Fine Arts will begin at Gallery Cosmos-2 in capital’s Mohakhali area today. Prime Minister's Economic Affairs Adviser Dr Moshiur Rahman will inaugurate the exhibition as the chief guest. Lee Yun-Young, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Tasmima Hossain, acting editor, Daily Ittefaq and Editor, Anannya Magazine, Muhammed Aziz Khan, Chairman, Summit Group and eminent artist Prof. Abul Bareq Alvi will be also present as guests of honour. The exhibition will remain open from 11 am to 7 pm until June 15. The 24 artists are-Alamgir Huque, Md. Jashim Uddin, Ruhul Karim Rumee, Nityananda Gaine, Sumon Sutro Dhar, Maruf Adnan, A. Asan, Asma Nasrin, Madhabi Rani Nath, Purna Paul, Sumit Chakraborty, Jenia Afroze, Monika Nandy, Sabiha Mahbub, Nisat Kamal Chowdhury, Hosneara, Nilufar Yeasmin Neela, Apu Chakrabarty, Sumanta Rani Mohonta, Thoilaching Marma, Sumusen, Shek Monir Rubel, Soma Mojumdar and Iffat Jahan.
