Pass percentage, number of GPA drop
This year, both the pass percentage and the number of GPA achievers witnessed a drop in the results of the Secondary School Certificate examinations under Chittagong Board. A total of 82.77 percent students have passed this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations under Chittagong Board which is 8.63 percentage points lower than that of the last year. As many as 7116 students achieved the highest Grade Point Average (GPA)-5 this year while it was 10,884 in 2014. A total of 88,468 examinees appeared at the examinations from 979 schools under 159 examination centres. The pass percentage of male examinees stands at 84.60 which is 7.73 percentage points lower than that of the last year. On the other hand, the pass percentage for female examinees stands at 81.11 which is 9.47 percentage points lower than that of the previous year. Prof Mohammad Mahbub Hasan, controller (examinations) of the Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, Chittagong attributed the fall in GPA and pass percentage to the countrywide political turmoil during the time of the examinations. “This year, the students had to sit for the examinations amid worry and anxiety due to the countrywide unrest situation and it affected the results. The schedule of the examination was interrupted and the authorities had to reschedule all exams in the weekends,” said Hasan.
