Int’l collegiate programming contest Nov 13
The ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest, largest renowned talent hunting contest of Asian, is going to be hosted by North South University (NSU) on November 13 and 14, 2015, says a press release. A preparatory meeting in this regard was held on Thursday at the conference centre of NSU. Gour Gobinda Goswami, vice-chancellor (In-charge), NSU chaired the meeting. Sirajul Islam, Dean, SEPS, NSU, Abul L. Haque, Director, Shazzad Hossain, Associate Director, Syed Akhter Hossain, chief judge, Shahriar Monjur, judging director of ACM-ICPC, Asian Region Contest 2015, Dhaka Site, were present at the meeting.
EWU gets new VC
MM Shahidul Hassan has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of East West University (EWU) yesterday for a four-year term, says a press release. He is the 4th vice-chancellor of the university. Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, chairperson, Board of Trustees, EWU, welcomed Dr Hassan on the campus at Aftabnagar, Dhaka. Before joining EWU, Dr. Hassan was the Professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) department in Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). Dr. Hassan was graduated from the Department of EEE, BUET in 1973 and completed his PhD in Electrical Engineering, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), Clarkson University, New York, USA in 1988. University Grant Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) awarded him four times for the ‘Best Research Paper’ of the year 1991, 1999, 2003 and 2005. He was the recipient of a prestigious Bangladesh Academy of Sciences Goald Medal award.
Seminar on dignity in mental health held
A motivational seminar titled ‘Dignity in Mental Health’ was held at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) on Saturday. First Ladies Hall and Begum Sirajunnesa Chowdhury Hall jointly arranged the seminar at seminar room of First Ladies Hall on the occasion of World Mental Health Day-2015. Provost of First Ladies Hall associate professor Amina Parvin presided over the function while vice-chancellor Aminul Haque Bhuyan was the chief guest. Director of Students Counseling and Guidance Professor Rashed Taluker and Provost of Begum Sirajunnesa Chowdhury Hall associate professor Sharifa Yasmeen also spoke among others at that time.
3 DIU students get scholarship
Three students of Computer Science and Engineering department of Daffodil International University (DIU) got ‘Erasmus Mundus Scholarship’, says a press release. This scholarship is funded with support from the European Commission. The mobility period of this scholarship is 10 month and under this scholarship they will also get 1000 € as monthly allowance in Euro. Recently, Md Ashraful Alam and Marzan Tasnim Oyshi left for Poland to avail the scholarship at Lodz University of Technology, Poland while Zerin Nasrin Tumpa left for UK to avail the scholarship at University of the West of Scotland. The scholarship will also cover the monthly allowance for the mobility period as specified above, university fee, one return or two one-way tickets from home country to host country and return, reimbursement of visa cost.
