Players of the Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club are unlikely to get permission to play in the Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup Football Tournament for other local clubs. The eight-club tournament be held under the auspices of Chittagong Abahani Krira Chakra at M A Aziz Stadium from October 20.
The club officials are very strict to allow their players for any club to play in the upcoming tournament, as the President of the Sheikh Jamal Manzur Kader put across his opinion to reporters yesterday. Kader, about the tournament, in the name of Sheikh Kamal, said that he was shocked with the poor arrangement to organise the tournament. “I wish every success of the tournament and thanks to the organisers but I am disappointed with some decision with the tournament.”
“It is not at all acceptable that the oragnsiers would award US $25,000 as prize money for the champions. I think the amount of the tournament’s first prize money is very poor. It is not all acceptable, if you evaluate of late Sheikh Kamal, and a tournament is going to be organised in the name of such a great sports organiser, the prize money should be at least one lakh dollars.”
About his players’ permission to play for other teams, Kader said, “Truly, I don’t like any of our players to play in the tournament but if any club wants then we will have board meeting, if the committee allows that’s different. Personally I don’t like.”
Meanwhile, the captain of the Sheikh Jamal, Mamunul Islam, man from Chittagong, expressed his interest to play in the tournament to be held at his home ground. Kader said, “It does not depend on only my decision, the committee will decide all if Mamun apply.”
