43 burnt as warehouse, bus go up in flames

At least 43 people suffered burn injuries as a chemical warehouse at Chawkbazar and a bus at Dhanmondi-27 in the capital caught fire yesterday.

Duty officer at the Fire Service Central Control Room Ziaur Rahman said the fire originated on the ground floor of the five-storey building at Churihaat in Old Dhaka around 10:38pm.

On information, 33 firefighting units rushed in to douse the flame, he said. The reason behind the fire could not be known yet. Among the injured, thirty five people were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Meanwhile, Mizanur Rahman, duty officer of fire service control room, said that the bus caught fire from a leaked gas line in front of Sunrise Plaza around 3:35 am and also speared to a pick-up van. Eight people, including several bus passengers, sustained burn injuries.

On information, two firefighting units rushed in and doused the fire. Among the injured, two were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
