Bangladesh Nari Sangbadik Kendra (BNSK) has urged formation of committees for prevention sexual harassment at all work places. The women journalists made the demand at a human chain in front of the National Press Club yesterday, held to protest sexual harassment of a female journalist of private television channel Ekushey Television (ETV).
Speakers at the demonstration demanded justice for the female journalist, who reportedly faced sexual harassment from Chief Reporter of ETV MM Sekandar. The organisation also said the women must speak out regarding any sexual harassment at workplace or anywhere else. “Every organisation should form a committee for the prevention and mitigation of sexual harassment. We have to stop sexual harassment in workplaces,” Nasimun Ara Haque, president of BNSK said.
On February 4, a Dhaka court placed MM Sekandar on a two-day remand in a case filed over allegations that he sexually harassed a female co-worker.
The victim also shared her experience on Facebook with #MeToo movement.
Sajeda Haque, organiser of #MeToo movement, said “We need a law to prevent sexual harassment.”
