Aiming to create public awareness on the various elements of environment and nature, Channel i, in association with Prokriti O Jibon Foundation, organised a day-long fair titled ‘Channel i Prokriti Mela’ on the Channel i premises in the capital’s Tejgaon area on Saturday. The theme of this year’s fair was ‘Plastic Dushon Rodher Shapath’ (Promise to stop plastic pollution).
Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin and Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud inaugurated the eighth edition of the fair by releasing seven parrots, great egret and colourful balloons.
Channel i Managing Director Faridur Reza Sagor, director of Channel i and Impress Telefilm Abdur Rashid Majumdar, Chairman of Prokriti O Jibon Foundation Mukit Majumdar Babu, cultural personalities Mustafa Zaman Abbasi, Rahat Khan, Abdul Mannan, among others, were present, at the inaugural ceremony of the fair. Then, the guests unveiled the cover of a book ‘Pechar Pachali’ written by Mukti Majumder Babu at the event.
During the daylong event, singers Chandana Majumdar, Shafi Mandal, Anima Roy, the artistes of Sera Kantha, Banglar Gaan, Khude Gaan Raj performed, while Shimul Mustapha recited poems. Besides, mime art show, Poter Gaan and dance performance were also held.
The event also featured tree plantation, drawing competition, gambhira, photo exhibition, stalls of sea fish, butterfly exhibition, bird-related book stall, stalls of hand and cottage industries and much more.
To note, Prokriti O Jibon Foundation has been organising the ‘Prokriti Mela’ for the last eight years.
