‘Kidnapper’ held in C’nawabganj; five children rescued

Police in a drive rescued five children and arrested a ‘kidnapper’ from Bhutupukur area in Sadar upazila yesterday. The rescued children are identified as Abdur Rahman, Selim Hossain, Ismail Hossain, Kabbir Hossain and Sabbir Hossain.

The arrestee was identified as Rabiul Islam, son of Enamul Haq of Palsa in the upazila.

Ziaur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Model Police Station, said Rabiul kidnapped the five children alluring them of giving ice-cream to them.

At one stage, when the children started to cry, local people interrogated Rabiul. Sensing danger, the local people caught Rabiul and handed him over to police.

The rescued children were handed over to their parents after investigations.

Student killed in road crash

UNB, Gopalganj

A mentally challenged student was killed as a bus hit him at Malek Bazar in Tungipara upazila yesterday morning.

The deceased was identified as Korban Sarder, 12, son of Nasir Sarder of Sriramkandi village and a student of Special Education School and Vocational Training Centre.

Kamruzzaman, sub-inspector of Tungipara Police Station, said that Korban came out of the centre out without informing others in the morning.

The bus hit him when he was crossing the road around 11:30am, leaving him dead on the spot.

70,000 yaba pills seized

UNB, Chattogram

Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard seized some 70,000 yaba tablets in separate drives in Teknaf of Cox's Bazar district from Friday night to Saturday morning.

Lieutenant Commander BNM Hamidul Islam, assistant director (Intelligence) of Coast Guard East Zone, said they recovered 50,000 yaba pills, which were left abandoned at Saidpara, on Friday night. Early Saturday, they also seized 20,000 yaba pills from Jallardwip, he said.
