A three-week long solo art exhibition, titled ‘Muse of Myths’ by eminent artist Abdus Shakoor Shah, will be launched today at Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts, Dhanmondi in the city. Noted poet Syed Shamsul Haq and Ambassador of France to Bangladesh Sophie Aubert will jointly inaugurate the exhibition today at 6pm. A total number of 50 artworks, those have been done using oil, acrylic, gouache, water-colour and mixed-media, will be put on display.
Born in Bogra on December 31 in 1947, Abdus Shakoor Shah obtained BFA from the College of Arts & Crafts in Dhaka in 1970.
Abdus Shakoor is widely recognised for using folk pattern in his works. His work focuses on ancestral and historical themes-- the Mahua and Malua love stories, Nakshi Kanthar Math and the Maimansingha Geetika.
Abdus Shakoor Shah has participated in a total of 21 solo and a number of group exhibitions till now. Besides, he has also taken part in different workshop and art camps at home and abroad.
Abdus Shakoor Shah received some prestigious awards like Scholarship under the Indian & Bangladesh Government Cultural Exchange Program; Best prize of Lalit Kala Akademi, Gujarat, India; Excellence Award, Ministry of Post & Telecommunication, Tokyo, Japan; Gold Medal, 15th National Art Exhibition (Pacific group), Dhaka, Bangladesh; SM Sultan Padak (Gold Medal), Narail, Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs Award, Tokyo, Japan; and SM Sultan Padak (Gold Medal), Narail, Bangladesh, and others for his immense contribution to painting.
The exhibition will remain open to all every day from 12pm to 8pm, until October 29.
