Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) is organising an event titled ‘Gurudev Rabindranath through Songs and Poems’ by Dr Nemai Mondal and Mira Mondal at the Kabi Sufia Kamal Auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum in Shahbag of the capital today. Dr Nemai Mondal is a famous recitation artiste. He has been working with recitation for more than 30 years. He participated in different workshops related to recitation and pronunciation. He had his formal training under renowned recitation artiste Wahidul Haque, Naren Biswas, Kazi Abu Zafar Siddique, Bhaswar Bandyapadhya, Kazi Arif, Prognya Laboni and many more. He is the only PhD holder in Bangladesh on recitation. His book ‘Aabritir Kalakoushal’ was published by Bangla Academy in 1996 and till date many editions of the book have been published. His albums on recitation are ‘Ananto Trishna’, ‘Oitijjher Ongikar’ and Samprodaikata Birodhi Abriti Shangkalon’. He performs regularly in Bangladesh Betar, BTV, Tara TV Kolkata and many other TV channels and radio. He acted in some national & international award-winning television commercials. Nemai Mondal is currently working as head of the department of Bangla Language & Literature in BRAC University.

On the other hand, Mira Mondal is a renowned Rabindra Sangeet artiste. She has been practicing music since her childhood and her mother was her first teacher. After that she learned classical music from Ustad Nityagopal Saha of Narayanganj Sangit Bidyalaya. In 1992, she achieved the first position in ‘Jatiya Rabindra Sangeet Sammelan Porishad’ in the district level. Since 1996, she has been performing Rabindra Sangeet in Bangladesh Betar and different TV channels, including Bangladesh Television, Tara Bangla Kolkata. She has an album in her credit named ‘Anek Kotha Bolechhilem’ and also sang in ‘Shruti Geetobitan’, a Tagore song DVD album published by Shurer Dhara and New Year’s Tagore album published by Geetanjali. Mira Mondal achieved first class in the Master’s degree from National University.
