Ilisha Ferry terminal approach road in shambles
Hundreds of vehicles, including passenger buses, move in difficulties along about two-kilometer-long rundown approach road to Ilisha ferry terminal in Bhola. Sources said the road has been in bad shape ever since a tidal surge played a havoc in the area along the Meghna River in the year 2013. Although the Roads and Highways Department took initiatives to save 480 meters vulnerable roads from erosion by dumping blocks and sand bags some 1.52 km approach road to the ferry terminal has been left without repair to the woes of bus passengers. Abu Alam, the manager of Ilisha ferry terminal, said due to the vulnerability of the approach road two transports cannot move alongside. Rejaul Karim, chairman of Rajapur union parishad, said two wards of his union stretching from Dhalir Khal to Gazipur launch terminal are in danger of erosion. He said there is an urgent need of dumping concrete blocks along two-kilometer of river bank. Abdul Hekim, executive engineer of Water Development Board in Bhola, said it needs a sanction of a large amount of money to check erosion and repair the vulnerable section of the road.
