Man killed in road accident
A man was killed in road accident in Tukerbazar Themuki area of Sylhet city on Monday night. The deceased was Lalu miah, 50, a resident of Lamarghao village of Shodor upazila in sylhet.
Police, said the accident took place when the speedy auto rickshaw hit him while he was walking on the road around 11pm, leaving him critically injured.
Local people rushed him to a hospital where doctors declared him dead. After the incident, police detained the driver of the auto-rickshaw. The body was sent to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy said, Akther Hussain officer-in-charge of Jalalabad police station .
182 arrested in Ctg
Chittagong district police in overnight special drives arrested 182 people including, seven leaders and activists of Jamaat-Shibir, in drives conducted at different upazilas of the district on Monday night. The law enforcers also seized 210 litres of liquor and 950 yaba tablets during the night-long drives. Mohammad Naimul Hasan, Additional Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) of Chittagong district police said that they 182 people including, seven activists of Jamaat-men in accusation of creating violence in the area. He said among arrestees, 143 persons were warranted in different cases.
Youth crushed under train
An unidentified young man was crushed under a train at Bhurulia near Joydebpur Railway Station yesterday morning.
Witnesses said the accident took place in the morning when a Mymensingh-bound train from Dhaka hit the man from behind on Dhaka-Mymensingh rail route, leaving him dead on the spot. Informed, railway police recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed Taj Uddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Railway eviction drive in Ctg
Bangladesh Railway (East Zone) conducted an eviction drive in Ambagan of Phartali area of Chittagong city to recover its illegally occupied land by some influential people.
Railway sources said some people along with ruling party backed ward councilor Mohammad Hossain Hiron illegally occupied some lands of railway for long time.
“We sent eviction notices to the residents but they do not leave the land”, said Israt Reza, officer (land) of Chittagong Division. “We conducted the drive to recover the lands,” Israt Reza added.
