JMB men ‘confess’ to two Ctg murders

Three of the five members of the banned militant outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) who were arrested on Monday confessed to their involvement in two sensational murder incidents that took place in the port city last month,  according to police. They also said that to collect money for carrying out militant activities they took committed the mugging incident in Majirghat of Sadarghat on September 23 and due to anti-Majar creed they killed Lengta Fakir in Bayezid area on September 4. They admitted their involvement in the murder of  Rahmatullah alias Lengta Fakir, 55, and his disciple Abdul Quader, 30, at ‘Lengta Mamur Mazar’ in Banglabazar area under Bayezid Police Station and the triple murder, including of a business firm manager, in Sadarghat area of the city on September 23.
While committing mugging,  two JMB members-- Rafique and Robiul-- died on the spot as grenades exploded at Majirghat.
Later manager of business firm Shah Corporation Satyagopal Bhomik who received injuries in the explosion died at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Police recovered two firearms, including an Ak-22 rifle, and bikes of the muggers.
Among the arrestees, two confessed to the police that they had taken part in the mugging incident in Sadarghat, said police sources.
When contacted, Devdas Bhattacharya, additional police commissioner (crimes & operations) of CMP, told The Independent, “In the mugging incident, eight people took part; from the arrestees Javed, Fuad and Sujan were in that mission and two members died on the spot while two more injured managed to flee away.”
“We are conducing investigation about another one,” added Devdas.
“JMB members confessed to us that they
have engaged in mugging to collect their found,
as strict surveillance in banking channel by the government has created fund crisis for the militant outfit,” he added.
So for raising fund they were involved in mugging and as a part of the motive they tried to snatch Tk 5.4 lakh of Shah Corporation, said Devdas.
“In Chittagong, to raise fund they were involved in the crime of mugging; it is not their central plan,” said, Babul Akhter, additional deputy police commissioner of DB (North-South).
To raise fund JMB also set up some small businesses like photo copy shops in Chittagong, said police sources. Md Sujan alias Babu, chief of the operation wings of JMB in Chittagong, took part in the mission of double murder at Lengta Mamur Mazar in Bayazid area.
While DB interrogated Javed, Bulbul, and Sujan at DB office on Monday night regarding the two sensational murder incidents in the port city, Sujan  said that he had killed the custodian of Mazar Rahmatullah and his disciple.  No one was involved in the incident except him, he said.
As Lengta Fakir did not use to wear any clothes which went against Islamic rules and regulations, Lengta Fakir is a Satan (devil) and if he (Slujan) could kill him, Haven must be for him and from this creed he killed Rahmatullah, said Babul Akhter quoting Sujan.
“While he was hacking Rahmatullah at that time, Abdul Quader got up from sleep, so Sujan killed him also,” added Akhter.
Police yesterday (Tuesday) around 4:30 pm recovered a machete and other items which were used in the murder incident from Bayazid area gleaning information from Sujan.
On Monday, a team of DB police led by Babul Akhter, conducted a drive in different parts of the city and arrested JMB military wing chief Javed alias Taufiqul Islam, 24, along with his four associates Bulbul Ahamed alias Fuhad, 26, Md Sujan alias Babu, 25, Mahabub, 35 and Sohel alias Kajal, 35, along with nine hand grenades, a pistol, 120 rounds of bullets, 10 knives and explosives.
