After much anticipation, the Cabinet Division has announced the names of the new cabinet members. The new cabinet has a number of surprises. In the announcement, many Awami League leaders rising from the field level leadership who won the election were given the chance to take up positions as heads of different ministries.
The new ministers, state ministers and deputy ministers have taken oath and the journey of the new government has begun with renewed hopes. Congratulations to all those who have been selected to lead the progress of the country. By giving chance to those who are not too well known, the Prime Minister has chosen the road less travelled and broken away from the practice of staying with familiar names. The cabinet also reinforces the concept that unless one is established in politics, there is no chance for him/her to take up a leading position.
This move, though unexpected, is a sign that there is fairness at the top in selection and upcoming leaders also get the chance to show their mettle in making the government function smoothly. The age is of the young and the daring with fresh faces ruling politics across the world. In a time when innovative, often radical ideas are changing societies, Bangladesh has also embraced the mantra of allowing change to add impetus to the forward momentum.
This is certainly not to say that the previous cabinet did not perform according to expectations. In fact, the previous ministers and other officials tried their best to provide a cohesive support to the state machinery, handling several critical situations with aplomb. However, the essence of democracy is to allow a fair chance to all and, in that spirit, the new appointments were given.
The expectations of the nation are that the new cabinet will work relentlessly to ensure that Bangladesh manages to become a middle income state in next five years with a steady economic growth. The country also needs to make marks in culture, sport, technology and manufacturing at the global stage so the talented from this country can compete with the best and showcase their skills. It is the responsibility of the new members to ensure that their ministries operate smoothly and the deserving youth of the country are given a chance to shine in their respective fields.
There is confidence that the new cabinet will add more oomph to politics plus progress of the country.
