Writ petition seeks cancellation of Dhaka-8 election result

Writ petition seeks
cancellation
of Dhaka-8
election result

A writ petition was filed with the High Court (HC) yesterday seeking cancellation of the election result in the Dhaka-8 constituency. The Jatiya Party candidate for Dhaka-8, advocate Eunus Ali Akond, filed the writ petition seeking its directive upon the Election Commission (EC) to cancel the election result in view of irregularities. An HC bench is likely to hear the petition today.

In the petition, the petitioner prayed to the HC to order the EC not to include the name of Rashed Khan Menon in the gazette notification. Menon, a candidate of Awami League-led 14-Party Alliance, has been elected from the seat in the December 30 general election. Later, Akond told reporters that the nation observed massive irregularities in the recent polls as no opposition agents were  allowed in the polling centres during the election. The presence of voters was also very low, but it was being said that a huge voter turnout took place, he alleged.
