Marking the 10th death anniversary of legendary theatre personality Selim Al Deen, a two-day event titled ‘Natyacharya Selim Al Deen Smaran Utsab’ (Natyacharya Selim Al Deen Commemorative Festival) held on the premises of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in the capital from January 13 and 14.
Two-day festival featured seminar, discussion, commemorative rally, placing floral wreaths on the graveyard of Selim Al Deen, decorating Shilpakala premises and portrait of Selim Al Deen and staging two acclaimed plays of Swapnadal.
Presided over by theatre personality SM Moshin, Manchasarathi Ataur Rahman inaugurated the festival at the Seminar Room of BSA on January 13. The guests also participated in a discussion on the life and work of Selim Al Deen at the event. Later, noted theatre personality Dr Afsar Ahmad delivered solo speech at a seminar on the same day.
As a part of the festival, Swapnadal staged their play ‘Hargaj’ at the Experimental Theatre Hall of BSA on January 14. Earlier on the opening day of the festival, the troupe staged its play ‘Helen Keller’, a monodrama directed by Jahid Repon, at the Studio Theatre Hall of the BSA.
On the other hand, Dhaka Theatre, in association with Bangladesh Gram Theatre, came up with a three-day festival marking the legend’s death anniversary.
