Man killed, two injured in compressor blast

UNB, Dhaka

 A worker was killed and two others sustained burn injuries in an explosion at a tyre repair factory in the city’s Shyampur area yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Nasir, 35, a worker of Panama Tyre and Rubber Factory in Alibahar area.

Russel Shikder, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence control room, said the incident took place around 9:53 am when an air compressor of the factory went off with a big bang, leaving three on-duty workers injured.

On information, three firefighting units went there and took the injured to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). Of the injured, Nasir succumbed to his injuries around 10:10 am, said Assistant Sub-inspector Abdur Rahman Khan of DMCH police outpost.
 

Youth detained at JU for cheating

A youth was detained on Tuesday in Jahangirnagar University (JU) for selling fake tickets of a cricket match between Jahangirnagar University and Gono Bishwabidyalay.

The detainee was identified as Razibul Haque (25), hailed from Kotiyadi uppazilla of Kishoreganj district.

Witness said, detainee Razibul was selling fake tickets worthy about  Tk 100 per ticket for a cricket tournament organised by Jahangirnagar University and Gono Bishwabidyalay at the JU’s main entrance in the afternoon.   Some JU BCL activists noticing that Razibul was selling tickets.

During interrogation, Razibul could not give satisfactory answer about the cricket tournament.

After confirming his cheating by interrogation, BCL men beat up Razibul and handed over to security guard.

In the meantime, security guards seized hundreds of unsold tickets and illegal ID cards from Razib.

However, when contacted JU BCL President Jewel Rana said, ‘A youth was selling ticket using my identity. I do not know him. After noticing it, our men detained him and handover to security guard for further punishment.
