Chinese firms provide 50,000 plus jobs in Kenya

Chinese firms operating in Kenya have created over 50,000 local jobs with the proportion of local employees reaching 96 per cent in 2018, according to a report unveiled by Kenya-China Economic and Trade Association (KCETA) recently.

Bilateral cooperation between China and Kenya has yielded fruitful results in fields such as major infrastructure projects, poverty alleviation, public health, cultural exchanges and special economic zone construction, facilitating industrialization in Kenya and creating plenty of jobs, noted the report.

Currently, around 400 Chinese-funded enterprises operates in Kenya which have strongly promoted local employment with the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project undertaken by Chinese companies as a good example, stated an official of Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The report also noted that approximately 67,000 local employees received professional training in 2018 provided by Chinese firms in Kenya.
