Christmas, the largest religious festival of the Christians, was celebrated in the metropolitan cities of Chattogram, Narayanganj and Barishal in memory of the birth of Jesus Christ with pomp and grandeur here yesterday. The daylong celebration programmes included morning prayers, recitation from the holy Bible, carol singing, exchanging pleasantries, cutting Christmas cakes, decoration of Xmas trees at Chashara St. Paul’s Church and other places.
All of the Churches were decorated with lights and illuminated Christmas trees and the children were seen seeking blessings from their elders.
The Christian religious leaders welcomed the Christians and invited guests with floral wreaths at separate ceremonies in the Churches and gave speeches with the bestwishes of Christmas.

A total of 14 Churches including city’s Pathargata and Jamal Khan Road vibrated with daylong frequent visit of Christians where they joined in special prayers.

OUR Staff reporter adds from Barishal: More than 20 thousand members of the three major Christian sects of the city amid tight security measures gallantly celebrated their biggest religious and socio-cultural festival yesterday.
The eight-day long festivities started with children fair at churches from Sunday.
On early Tuesday and morning the festival starts with singing carols, special church prayers, and discussion meetings.
The Nine Christian Churches of the city including Barishal Catholic Cathidral, Oxford Mission, Baptist mission, Mother Teresa's Home, Christian religious training center, Care, Caritas, YMCA, YWCA and other Christian Institutions have arranged different types of programs including visits and special prayers at the graveyards.
