with Tk 8cr

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) yesterday arrested three people, including a businessman, along with around Taka eight crore in cash and cheque of Taka 10 crore meant for influence the national election slated for December 30. “We arrested three persons including Ali Haidar, 24, managing director of import-export company and contractor United Corporation, from his company office housed on the 27th floor at Motijheel City Centre at 11.30am yesterday,” said Director General (DG) of RAB Benazir Ahmed at a press conference.

Two other arrestees are: Alamgir Hossain, 38, manager of Jhalokathi office of Amena Enterprise and its general manager (admin) Joynal Abedin, 45, he also said.  “RAB personnel have seized around Taka 8 crore and cheque of Taka 10 crore from his possession, he said, alleging that the businessman was attempting to use the money to influence the election.”

Regarding his political affiliation, senior assistant superintendent (ASP) of RAB media wing said, they have found leaflets of a BNP nominated candidate for Shariatpur-3 constituency Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu on the spot and the leaflets have been inscribed with picture of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

Police had previously arrested two suspects identified as Shaheedul Islam and Muhith from the Rajarbag area of Dhaka on Monday morning along with Taka 4 lakh. Police claimed that they were supporter of Dhaka-8 BNP candidate Mirza Abbas.
