2-day nat’l mathematics confce begins at DU

A two-day National Mathematics Conference held at AF Mujibur Rahman Bhaban of Dhaka University (DU) on Friday.

DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the conference as the chief guest.

AF Mujibur Rahman Foundation and Bangladesh Mathematical Society jointly organised the conference with a theme of ‘Research and Development in Mathematics for Real Life Application,’ said a DU press release.

President of Bangladesh Mathematical Society Prof Md Mubarak Hossain presided over the inaugural function while Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof Mohammed Abdul Aziz and Trustee of A F Mujibur Rahman Foundation Khushi Kabir addressed it as the special guests. Akhtaruzzaman urged the professionals, academicians and researchers to present mathematics to the students in easy ways so that they can understand it properly.

He said mathematical knowledge is one of the foundational skills to analyse and apply the concepts and theories of other academic fields including economics, business, science and engineering.

The vice-chancellor hoped the conference would create a common platform for mathematicians in the country.

Some 200 academicians and researchers participated in the conference.

IU Bangabandhu hall provost takes charge

Prof Tapon Kumar Zoadder of Information and Communication Engineering department took charge as the new provost of Jatir Pita Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall of Islamic University (IU) on the campus in Kushtia yesterday.

 Motiyar Rahman conducted the programme while student adviser Prof Porash Chandra Barman, Prof Rezaul Karim, Prof Mamun, Prof Assaduz Zaman, Prof Ahasan-Ul-Ambia and Prof Aktarul Islam Zillu attended on the occasion.

IU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari appointed him to the post for the next one year, acting registrar in-charge SM Abdul Lotif told Independent on Sunday.

 He replaced Bokhtiar Hossain of the same hall, the registrar added.

 IU’s ‘Tarunno’ distributes blankets

Tarunno, a voluntary organisation of Islamic University (IU), distributed warm clothes among the poor and destitute people in Kushtia on Friday.

IU former proctor Prof M Mahbubar Rahman inaugurated the distribution programme as the chief guest at Kushtia Government Primary School premises in the morning.

Among others, Assistant Professor Anichur Rahman of Mathematics department, Assistant Professor M Jashim Uddin of Information and Communication Engineering department and Towhidur Rahaman, a lecturer of IU Statistics department were present at the programme.

While addressing, Professor M Mahbubar Rahman said Tarunno had always stood beside people of the country in their need alongside maintaining their study.

A total 150 pieces of blankets were distributed among the people to protect them from cold, said Tarunno President Arman Reza Joy.
