French envoy visits DIU
French Ambassador to Bangladesh Sophie Aubert visited Daffodil International University (DIU) in the capital yesterday, says a press release. M Golam Rahman, pro-vice chancellor (Acting Vice Chancellor) of the university, welcomed her and accorded a reception in a programme. French envoy Sophie Aubert exchanged opinions and views on various educational aspects of the two countries regarding educational exchange, educational cooperation and holding cross cultural programmes. She emphasized the role of Paris in organising COP21, the World Climate Summit of which Bangladesh will be a beneficiary working force. She urged the students to be a potential ICT skilled graduate to contribute to the nation while sampling a few classes. She expects that DIU graduates can stand out by competing with other graduates both nationally and globally with their skill that they have acquired. Later, Aubert Sophie visited classes, JMC Media Lab, English Language Lab and other facilities of the university and discussed with the students. Hamidul Haque Khan, Treasurer, and other high officials were also present, among others.
Ethics teachers training course begins at JU
SAVAR: A five-day workshop on ‘Ethics Teachers Training Course’ began at Jahir Raihan auditorium on Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus yesterday. JU Public Health and Informatics Department organised the event in association with UNESCO while Vice-Chancellor Farzana Islam inaugurated the workshop as the chief guest. A total of 35 teachers across the world participated at the workshop. Former Advisor of World Health Organization (WHO) M Muzaharul Haque, Professor of Philosophy Department of National University of Singapore D Leonardo De Castro, Researcher of Oxford University Meherunnissa Suleman and Teacher of Philosophy Department of Namibia University Masud Nasr will take classes on the ethics. Presided over by the chairman of JU Public Health and Informatics Department Abdur Rahman, JU Pro-VC Abul Hossain and Advisor of Asia Pacific Region of UNESCO Sue Vize addressed the function as special guests.
Seminar on prevention & control of heart disease
The School of Health and Life Sciences of North South University (NSU) organised a seminar on ‘prevention and control of heart disease’ in collaboration with Bumrungrad Hospital, Bangkok, Thailand yesterday at NSU, says a press release. MA Kashem, chairman, Board of Trustees of North South University, was the chief guest. The programme was chaired by GU Ahsan, dean of School of Life Sciences. Gour Gobinda Goswami, vice-chancellor In-charge, North South University, was special guest. Suresh Narula, cardiologist, Bumrungrad Hospital, Bangkok was the key note speaker of the seminar while Winston Ongart Wuttisitti, manager, International Marketing, Bumrungrad Hospital, Bangkok, Thailand, gave opening remarks. The speakers emphasized the significance of the present situation of heart disease as the major non-communicable disease globally. Winston praised the Dean GU Ahsan for organising this kind of seminar. Later, Vice Chancellor in-charge Gour Gobinda Goswami presented a crest to MA Kashem, chairman, BOT, North South University.
