Bangladesh at least confirmed three out of five titles when the local shuttlers made an all Bangladesh finals in boys’ singles, boys’ doubles and girls doubles event in the Yonex-Sunrise Bangladesh International Junior Badminton Tournament.
The semifinal matches of all five events were held at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Gymnasium in the capital yesterday. Lokman of Bangladesh eliminated his compatriot favourite Gourav Singha 21- 12, 12-21, 21-18 in the semifinal. Sibgata Ullah won another all Bangladesh semifinal beating Khondokar Abdus Suad 21-19, 2-11.
Lokman and Hanif outplayed Rajesh Chandra and Rownak Nabi 21-14, 21-16 in another all-Bangladesh boys doubles semifinals. The third final confirmed in girls’ doubles with Reshma Akhtar- Urmi Akhtar pair qualifying for the final to meet their countrymate Rahima Jarin and Camellia in the final.
Tresa Joli of India broke Bangladesh monopoly when she stormed into the girls’ doubles final beating Urmi Akhtar of Bangladesh 21-6, 21-8 in the semifinal. Local shuttler Rahima Jarin was also eliminated in the other semifinal when she went down to Ruhi Razu of USA 21-5, 21-3.
