Tigers aim to come back strongly

Bangladesh national team selector Habibul Bashar Sumon (L) gives some tips to Soumya Sarkar (C) and Liton Das as the two top order batsmen enter the Sher-e- Bangla National Cricket Stadium ground in the capital to join in the batting practice session ahead of second T20 match yesterday. BCB Photo

The way Bangladesh clawed back and triumphed the last T20 series against World T20 champions West Indies as top-order batsman Soumya Sarkar said that they will attempt to strongly come back and win the next matches of the ongoing series.

Soumya also said that they will try to gear up them by amending their mistakes what they did in the first Twenty20 match in Sylhet.

“Of course, it’s a challenge. We’re ready to take that challenge,” said Soumya Sarkar.

“We’re trailing by 1-0 against West Indies. So, we’ll try to strongly come back,” Soumya told media at the pre-match day press conference at the Media Block of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.

Citing the victory of the last series in the West Indies’ tour, the top-order batsman said that they want to replicate that performance to win the series 2-1 despite losing the first match of the three-T20 series.

“We lost the first match to West Indies in the last series but later we strongly came back in the last two matches and won the series 2-1 margin,” he said.

“The mistakes we did in the opening match, including giving away some key wickets early, we lost the match for those reasons. If we didn’t do it, the result will then be better,” he continued.

The left-handed batsman said that they didn’t cleverly place their bat over the West Indian bowlers especially Sheldon Cottrell and Oshane Thomas, who laid the foundation of the damage to Bangladesh innings.

“That’s not apprehension, I think, we ran to hit their short balls. It’s matter of courage that we went to hit the fast deliveries of the short balls,” he said.

“It would be told that we feared to face the short ball if we out to hit the ball. Actually he stepped up to hit their short balls and out. We were out when we went to fiercely hit the fast short balls,” he also said.

“If we could use our brain and cleverly place it and made good timing then we could do fare well,” he added.
