‘Bomb-like’ object found

A bomb-like object along with some explosives was recovered from inside a shop of Sattar Market at Gualghat Lane of Wari in the city on Saturday. Police claimed that the recovered bomb and explosives were kept hidden inside the shop to carry out subversive acts on the Victory Day on December 16 as well as during the National Election on December 30. Briefing reporters at the Sattar Market, Deputy Commissioner (DC-Wari Division) Md Farid Uddin said they got an information at around 11:00 pm on Friday that bombs were kept hidden inside the ‘Nadim Motors’ outlet to conduct subversive acts.

Based on the information, a police team went to the spot in the same night but did not get anything from inside the shop. Later, another police team went to the market again on Saturday morning and started searching nearby shops. Finally they found bomb-like object, he said.

Being informed, a bomb disposal unit from the Detective Branch of the DMP came to the spot and defused the object. Some explosives, including gunpowder were also recovered from inside the shop, the DC Farid said.

He claimed that it was very powerful destructive bomb as a detonator was found in the bomb.

“There was a dispute between market owner Hasan Ali Jonny and shop owner Ekramul Hoque for a long time.

Investigation is being conducted weather any of them are involved with this incident or not,” he said, adding that pistol making materials were also recovered from inside the Nadim Motors.
