The 48th Victory Day was celebrated across the country yesterday. The nation celebrated the day commemorating its glorious victory in a nine-month war against Pakistan occupation forces in 1971. The national flags were hoisted atop all public and private buildings, the main islands of roads, roadsides and various buildings were illuminated and decorated with coloured miniature posters and banners. Bijoy rallies brought out in the streets of the cities marking the day.
BSS adds from Chattogram: The 48th Victory Day was celebrated in the city as elsewhere in the district pledging to establish a non-communal and prosperous Bangladesh and reject anti-liberation forces in line with the spirit of Liberation War. In addition to government programme, different political parties, its front organisations, socio-cultural and professional bodies arranged rallies, discussion meetings, cultural functions and milad mahfils to mark the day and paid homage to those glorious sons for their supreme sacrifices during the Liberation War.
Our staff reporter from Barishal reports: Freedom fighters, lawmakers, divisional and district high officials, leaders of the political parties, Barishal University, different socio-cultural organisations placed wreaths at the alters of the Shaheed Smriti Falok on the DC office premises and on mass killing ground (Badhaya Bhumi) and Central Shaheed Minar from early hours.
District and city unit Awami League and BNP brought out Bijoy rallies from Sadar road of the city and paraded almost all the main road of the town.
Barishal Sangskritik Sangathan Samanya Parishad (BSSSP), an alliance of 27 major cultural organisations of the city, arranged programmes at Central Shaheed Minar in the city in observance of the day.
In Rangpur, the city turned into a place of jubilation as the people celebrated the day amid colourful festivities paying rich tributes to the to the martyrs who laid down their lives for the country, reports BSS.
The auspicious day was celebrated with a renewed pledge to spread true national history among young generations to inspire them with spirit of the War of Liberation. Thousands of soothing people placed wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar and Independence Memorial ‘Arjan’ in the city.
In Rajshahi, the auspicious 48th Victory Day was celebrated in the divisional city as well as different parts of the district with a renewed vow for building Bangladesh as a happy, prosperous and non-communal country in the spirit of the Great War of Liberation, reports BSS.
Divisional and district administrations, Rajshahi City Corporation, scores of political, socio-cultural, voluntary, professional bodies and trade organisations placed wreaths at different Shaheed Minars at Bhuban Mohan Park, Rajshahi College, Talaimari, Rajshahi University, Police Lines and Collectorate Building.
