Bangladesh T20 captain Shakib Al Hasan’s abrupt injury on his second left toe fell Bangladesh into apprehension for the time being ahead of the opener of the Twenty20 series.
The first match of three-T20 series will be played at the picturesque Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet today.
Along with the team, when T20 captain was batting practice at net, a yorker of fast bowler Mohammad Saifuddin hit his second left toe that forced him to leave the net.
But it's a good thing for the team and its countless fans across the world that the injury of Shakib is nothing serious.
Head coach Steve Rhodes clarified Shakib's condition just hour after the incident. The English coach attended the pre-series media conference in place of Shakib, where he informed that he (Shakib) is fine.
“He got a little knock on the foot from Saifuddin, who bowled an in-swinging Yorker to him. Good ball actually that hit him on the toe," Steve Rhodes said. "He is gonna be fine, he is smiling and happy. He’s icing his foot at the moment. I’d be very surprised if he wakes up tomorrow and there’s any issues to be perfectly honest,” Rhodes said.
“He got a bit grumpy and sent me to replace him at the press conference. I didn’t mind,” he added.

Shakib left the net after he was hit by a rowdy delivery on his second toe.
The left-handed batsman having some problem in his groin from the last match whilst sustain this toe injury prompted him to leave the net session and walk away staring into the dressing room, where his toe has been kept in the ice water for 15-20 minutes. It was not though known immediately whether he is out of the series or not but Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief physician citing Shakib’s words that nothing is serious.
“We have given ice on his toe. Then, we needed to take further action after 15-20 minutes,” said Dr Debashis Roy.
The ace all-rounder was out of cricket since his return upon home at midway from the Asia Cup with a long-standing finger injury that needed an immediate surgery for his abrupt swollen finger that was full of pus.
There was question mark over his participation in the multi-nation competition in UAE in September. Finally he took part in the all Asian competition.
Shakib staged a comeback when BCB named 13-member squad keeping him for the two-Test series against visiting West Indies, which was started in Chattogram.
