The 48th Victory Day was observed in different districts yesterday with elaborate programmes to pay deep homage to the martyrs who laid down their lives for the country.
In Manikganj, the day was celebrated with much enthusiasm and fresh pledge to build a happy, prosperous and poverty and hunger-free Bangladesh.
The day began with 31 gun salutes at Shaheed Tapan-Miraz Stadium.
From the early morning, parts of the town wore a festive look. Many buildings, vehicles, main thoroughfares and road islands were decorated with national flags of different shapes and sizes along with banners inscribed with ‘Happy Victory Day’.
A colourful Bijoy rally, led by State Minister for Health and Family welfare Zahid Malek Sawpon, was brought out from Shaheed Minar premises in the morning and it paraded the main roads of the town.
District and upazila administration, different political, socio-cultural and professional organisations chalked out many programmes to observe the day in a befitting manner.
The other programmes included discussion meetings, exhibition soccer match, debate, recitation of poems, staging of mass drama, patriotic songs, sessions of dance, and art competition and friendly football matches.
Marking the day, special diets were served among the inmates of hospitals, jail, child homes and orphanages.
Over one hundreds family members of martyrs, wounded freedom fighters and freedom fighters were honored by the district administration.
In Jashore, freedom fighters and family members of the martyred freedom fighters were accorded reception at Town Hall Maidan to mark the day.
Special prayers were offered at different mosques, temples and churches of the district seeking divine blessings for the progress of the country.
A two day long cultural function was arranged at town hall maidan to mark the 48th Victory Day.
Earlier, Awami league and its front organisations arranged a discussion presided over by Awami League district unit president Sahidul islam Milan. The meeting was addressed, among others, by Awami league secretary Shaheen Chaklader, Zila Parishad Chairman Saifuzzaman Pikul, Advocate Kazi Abdus Shahid Lal , Rabiul Alom( JSD), Mozaharul Islam Montu (Muktijoddha commander ), Razek Ahmed (Muktijoddha commander) Muktijoddha Ali Hassain Moni.
In Tangail, the day was celebrated with much enthusiasm and fresh pledge to build the country with the spirit of liberation. The day began with 31 gun salutes at Tangail Shaheed Smiriti Poura Uddayan at down.
A discussion meeting was held at Bhasani hall under the auspices of Tangail district administration. Political leaders, government officials took part in the discussion meeting. A cultural function followed the discussion meeting as well.
In Jamalpur, the day’s programmes began with paying homage by placing floral wreaths at the memorial for the Liberation War martyrs in the town.
State Minister for Textile and Jute Mirza Azam first placed wreath at the memorial. Afterwards, various organizations, district Administration, Muktijodha Sangsad, police administration, district council, upazila council, Jamalpur pourashava, Power Development Board, Jamalpur Bar Associaton, civil surgeon office, political parties and Jamalpur Press Club also placed floral wreaths at the memorial.
In Pirojpur, improved diet was served in the jails and orphanages on the occasion. Besides, discussion meetings and cultural programmes were also held at Shadhinata Mancha of local Gopal Krishna Town Club.
In Bogura, district administration arranged a display programme at Shaheed Chandu Stadium. Students of local schools, madrashas and colleges attended on the programme. Bogura Deputy Commissioner Md Faiyez Ahmmed and Superintendent of police (SP) Ali Asraf Bhiyan took salute at programme.
Many cultural personalities and organisations placed wreaths at ‘Muktir Fulbari’ Liberation War memorial in the town at early morning yesterday. Sammilto Sangskritik Jote, Bogra organised a cultural programme marking the day at Bogra Khokon Park Shaheed Minar premises. Bogra district administration and Journalist Union of Bogra organised programmes to mark the day as well.
In Meherpur, the district administration undertook elaborate programmes to mark the day.
A grand march past comprising with police, BNCC, Ansar-VDP, students of different educational institutions, inmates of public orphanages was held at the local stadium where Deputy Commissioner Ataul Gani and Police Super Muhammad Mostafijur Rahman took salute and DC delivered speeches wishing country’s peace and prosperity.
Sports competitions and cultural functions were held at different institutions. It was scheduled to distribute rich diets among the inmates of orphanages, jails and hospitals. Special prayers seeking peace and prosperity of the country offered at mosques, temples and churches.
Valiant freedom fighters and members of martyred freedom fighters were accorded reception and a discussion meeting on the occasion was held at local shilpakala academy with Ataul Gani, DC in the chair.
In Noakhali, at least 81 groups of different school and college students, girls guide, BNCC, Anser, police, disable children and autistic children took part in the marsh past and display at Maijdee Shahid Bulu Stadium.
Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) also arranged discussion meeting and cultural programme to mark the day.
In Chuadanga, programmes included placing wreaths at monument, hoisting of national flag, lighting at private and public buildings and offices, discussion meeting, cultural functions, reception of freedom fighters and their family members and march past.
District administration arranged a march past at Chuadanga Mohamdan Stadium. Students of educational institutes, police, BNCC, Scouts, personnel of fire service, Asnwer-VDP and cultural organisation took part in the march past. Deputy Commissioner Gopal Chandra Das and Police super Mahbubur Rahman took salute at the programme.
Special prayers were arranged at mosques for progress and prosperity of Bangladesh.
In Mymensingh, the Victory Day was observed yesterday with a call for building Sonar Bangla as dreamt by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and also to build hunger and poverty free prosperous country, reports BSS. The people of the district are celebrating the Victory Day-2018 amid colourful festivities paying rich tributes to the martyred of the liberation war placing floral wreaths at the Muktijuddah Memorial at Patgodam area in the city early morning.
To celebrate the day district administration chalked out elaborate programmes. The days programme started with 31 gun salute at the memorial with the rise of the sun.
