DNCC mayor seeks people’s
help for green Dhaka

People’s cooperation and awareness are indispensable for making Dhaka a green, clean, traffic congestion and water logging-free city, said Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Annisul Haque. He made the observation while addressing a view-exchange meeting with Bangladesh Dokan Malik Samity (BDMS), an association of shop owners,  at Krishibid Institution Bangladesh auditorium in the capital yesterday. The mayor said the commitments he made to the people of the city could only be materialised if people from their respective positions became aware and worked hand in hand with the city corporation. “I am not giving any instructions how you will keep your areas clean. If you can keep the spaces around your stores or shops waste and dirt-free, your sense of cleanliness will inspire others,” said the mayor to the store owners. “We’ll go to the students, to the house owners, to the government and non-government organisations to seek cooperation with a view to making Dhaka a beautiful city,” he added. “Dhaka can’t be the second worst city in the world. Dhaka gives us life. Let’s change it; let’s make a force putting our hands together.” He said that the corporation managed to remove all the wastes, after slaughtering of the animals during Eid-ul-Azha, in 27 hours, well ahead of the 48-hour deadline it had set earlier.
