Lawyers to meet Mujahid today

Lawyers of condemned war criminal Jamaat leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid will meet him at Dhaka Central Jail this morning. Mujahid’s counsel Advocate Shisir Monir said five lawyers, led by him, will meet the Jamaat leader around 10:30am as per the schedule given by the jail authorities. Replying to a question, he said they would meet Mujahid to consult with him about the review petition. "We’ll show him the copy of the judgment and discuss with him about the grounds of the review petition," Monir added.
The International Crimes Tribunal on Thursday issued a warrant for the death of condemned war crimes convict Mujahid. Wrapped in red clothe, the warrant was sent to Dhaka Central Jail around 3pm on the day and then it was read out to the Jamaat secretary general. Earlier, the Supreme Court on June 16 upheld the death sentence awarded by the then ICT-2 to him for killing intellectuals during the Liberation War in 1971.
The then International Crimes Tribunal-2 on July 17, 2013 awarded Mujahid death penalty for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in collaboration with the Pakistan occupation forces, after finding the Al Badr boss guilty of five, out of seven, charges.
On Aug 11, 2013, Mujahid filed an appeal with the Appellate Division against his capital punishment awarded by the ICT-2.
