JUST female dorm named after Taramon Bibi

An under-construction residential hall for female students of Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST) has been named after the Bir Protik Taramon Bibi, as a tribute for her contribution in the Liberation War.
The decision was made at the 52nd meeting of the university's policymaking body yesterday afternoon.
Taramon Bibi was one of just two women to be awarded the Bir Protik award as she had engaged in direct armed combat during the Liberation War in 1971.
The authorities also decided to name the second academic building of the campus after prominent scientist Jagadish Chandra Bose, the Medical Center after child specialist Dr MR Khan, and the upcoming third residential dormitory for male students after prominent artist SM Sultan.
Int’l Volunteer Day observed at UIU

The International Volunteer Day was observed at United International University (UIU) on Wednesday, says a press release.
With the theme ‘Volunteers Build Resilient Communities’ the programme was organizsed by UIU along with UNV Bangladesh and UNIC Dhaka.
The day-long programmes included, rally, discussion as well as friendly football and cricket matches. Prof Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman, vice-chancellor of UIU, was the chief guest while Md Aslam, former captain of Bangladesh National Football Team, Anupam Hossain, executive director, Activate Bangladesh Foundation and Sports Commentator of BTV and Jamal Bhuyan, Captain of Bangladesh National Football Team, were present at a procession as guest of honour. Later, friendly football match with college students and cricket with university students were held.
A seminar was held at UIU auditorium where Mia Seppo, UN resident coordinator, Muhammad Abdullah, secretary of Ministry of Youth and Sports, Sultana Afroz, Additional Secretary of Economic Relation Division, Dr Mohammad Monirujjaman, National Information officer of UNIC and Aktar Uddin, National Programme Analyst of UNV, spoke in the discussion.
