Workers Party of Bangladesh (WPB) today called as “very unfortunate” the cancellation of Australian cricket team’s planned Dhaka visit. ”Australian cricket authorities have taken the decision on Australian government’s advice though Bangladesh had pledged them the highest security,” WPB President Rashed Khan Menon and General Secretary Fazle Hossain Badsha said in a statement.
They said the Australians scrapped their planned visit after Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom issued travel alerts over their citizens Bangladesh tour. ”(But) no incident took place in Bangladesh in recent period that could warrant them to issue such alert . . . It (travel alert) is ill-motivated and there is a hidden agenda behind this,” the statement read.
Referring to the killing of 10 people in a college in the USA recently, they said such incidents take place in those countries very often, “but Bangladesh never issues any alert on the visits of its citizens in those countries”. ”Bangladesh is showing zero tolerance against militancy and facing the rise of militancy with high competence, they asserted.
