Man beaten dead in Moulvibazar

A person was beaten to death by another allegedly over puffing a cigarette at Jagannathpur in sadar upazila on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Magnu Mia, 35, son of late Tanu Mia of the area.
Sohel Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Moulvibazar Model Police Station, said one Ripion Mia locked into an altercation with Magnu Mia over puffing a cigarette.
At one stage, angered Ripion hit Magun’s head from behind with a stick, leaving him critically injured.
Later, locals took him to Moulvibazar General Hospital where the duty doctor declared him dead, the OC added.
Youth fined for question leak

A mobile court here on Saturday fined a youth with Tk 5,000 for his involvement in leaking and selling Class-IX question papers of a local school.
Kamruzzaman Dablu, son of Atiar Rahman of Pachanmana area of the district town was found guilty, said Upazila Nirbahi Officer Marukul Alam said Kamruzzaman.
Danlu, who works as a computer operator, downloaded the annul examination question from the Jessore board website and sold it to the examinees.
On information, police arrested him and placed him before a mobile court where he confessed his involvement, the officer added.
‘JMB man’ held in Jhenaidah

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members arrested an alleged member of Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from Chandipur Bazar in Sadar upazila early Saturday.
The arrestee was identified as Milon Hossain, 35, son of Karim Sheikh of Chandipur village.
Masud Alam, company commander of Rab- 6, said acting on a tip-off, they arrested Milon from his shop at the bazaar in the early hours.
They also seized a computer, three hard disks and books on jihad from the shop, he said.
Jamaat ameer among 6 held
UNB, Bagerhat
Police arrested six Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists, including its district unit ameer, from Chitli Boitpur area in Sadar upazila on Saturday.
The arrestees are Maolana Rejaul Karim, the ameer of Bagerhat district unit Jamaat and Jamaat activists Emad Uddin, Mizanur Rahman, Maniruzzaman, Sagiruddin and Badaruddin, hailing from different places in the district.
On information, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested them along with five crude bombs and locally made sharp weapons, said Bagerhat Police Supper Pankaj Chandra Ray.
The arrestees were planning to carry out subversive acts in the area ahead of national election scheduled to be held on December 30, added the SP.
‘Bijoy Mela’ kicks off in Chandpur

A month-long enthusiastic ‘Muktijudhdher Bijoy Mela 2018’ was formally kicked off at Hasan Ali Government High School ground of the district town on Saturday.
Dr Dipu Moni MP formally inaugurated the Bijoy Mela as the chief guest by hoisting the national flag in front of the ‘Ongiker’, a memorial monument of the martyrs of the Liberation War, in the district headquarters.
Swadhinota Padak winner and freedom fighter Dr Syeda Badrunnahar Chowdhury, Zila Muktijodhdha Sangsad President M A Wadud, Additional District Commissioner Osman and Additional Police Super Mizanur Rahman were present at the occasion as special guests.
Later, a discussion was held with freedom fighter and District AL General Secretary Abu Nayeem Patwary Dulal in the chair.
Bijoy Mela Committee Chairman Mohsin Pathan delivered the welcome address while District AL President and Chandpur Municipal Mayor Nasiruddin Ahmed, journalist Kazi Shahadat, Advocate Jahidul Islam Roman, Advocate Badiuzzaman Kiron, among others, spoke on the occasion.
On the 8th day of March in 1971, the-then Chandpur sub division was liberated from the grips of the Pakistani occupation army.
The day also has a great significance as the first meeting of the ‘Sangram Parishad’ as well as action programme for liberation war began from this ground and that’s why, the mela is organised at this ground every year.
