Shoilkupa police on Thursday arrested a leader of the Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal from Shoilkupa municipal area.
The arrested was Forhad, 34, of Bijulia village in the same upazila. Police said he was a listed criminal.
Officer in charge of Shoilkupa police MA Hashem Khan, said acting on a tip off, a contingent of police raided Amirul Market area at Hatfazelpur village in Shoilkupa town on Thursday noon.
Sensing the police presence, Forhad jumped into nearest Kumar River. Police chased him, rescued him and arrested him.
He was a wanted criminal, the police said.
Shoilkupa upazila general secretary of Bangladesh Nationalist Party Raqibul Hasan Khan Dipu when contacted said Forhad was accused in a political case and was released on bail from the local court. He was the president of Manaharpur union unit Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal in Shoilkupa.
