Three alleged muggers were arrested along with a microbus while fleeing after snatching some money from a customer of Sonali Bank in the city on Thursday noon. The detainees were identified as Emdadul Huq, 50, a resident of Bangshal in Dhaka, Iqbal Hossain, 52, of Armanitola, and Nurul Islam, a microbus driver of Kamrangir Char in Dhaka. Police sources said one Rajib Haoladar, an assistant of deed writer Babul Haoladar, went to Sonali Bank corporate branch of Barisal for depositing Tk14,000 in an account of Babul. At that time, a mugger to divert Rajib’s attention showing him a note of Tk 500 denomination asked whether it was fake or not while his another associate snatching the packet of money fled from the scene. Babul clasping one of the muggers raised a hue and cry. A police team on patrol detained the mugger, but other members of the gang fled in microbus. Later police chasing the microbus succeeded to arrest two others with Tk12,000 from Nathullabad area. Mamun, another member of the gang, managed to flee with the rest snatched money and police are trying to arrest him, said Ansaruddin, assistant commissioner of Barisal Kotwali police station. A case was lodged in this connection and police started interrogating the arrestees and a drive to arrest other members of the gang, said Shakhawat Hossain, Kotwali police station officer-in-charge.
