Both the second round matches of the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) between BCB North Zone-Walton Central Zone and Islami Bank East Zone- Prime Bank South Zone ended in draws at two different venues of Rajshahi and Bogura yesterday.
It was unfortunate for Central Zone whose bowlers finally fail to wrap up the innings of the North Zone by breaking their dig-in resistance after being set a target of 284 to win the game. Despite losing Zunaid Siddique early on the final day after Mizanur Rahman in previous day, North Zone played to chase down the target what was obvious in Sunzamul Islam’s batting approach. The spin all-rounder pulled together a couple of successful partnerships before Robiul Haque dismissed him.
Sunzamul hit 98 third-wicket with Forhad Hossain and another 96 with Jahurul Islam Omi for the fifth-wicket stand that surpassed 200-run mark. Farhad fell three runs short of half-century after Jahurul slammed 52. Sunzamul struck a patient 92 off 227, clobbering 10 boundaries.
Elsewhere at Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium, Prime Bank South Zone built up a gritty resistance amid follow-on in reply to Islami Bank East Zone’s staggering 473. Wicketkeeper-batsman Anamul Haque Bijoy laid the solid ground for drawing the match.
He stitched together a string of partnership including 136 opening stand with Shahriar Nafees, who got out for 81 and 89 third-wicket with Tushar Imran, who fell for 41.
