In Brahmanbaria and Manikganj, all aspirant candidates submitted their nomination papers at their respective election offices amid tight security on Wednesday, the last day for submission of nomination papers. In all, 86 candidates from six constituencies in Brahmanbaria district submitted their nomination papers in the office of the deputy commissioner and the respective offices of the upazila nirbahi officer (UNO). Awami League (AL) candidate Anisul Huq, who has been nominated for Brahmanbaria-4 (Kasba-Akhaura), submitted his nomination paper at the offices of Kasba and Akhaura upazila nirbahi officer yesterday.
Former state minister AB Tajul Islam, who will fight the polls from Brahmanbaria-6 (Bancharampur), District AL president RAM Oaidul Muktadir Chowdhury, who will fight from Brahmanbaria-3 (Sadar-Bijoynagar), and Beacon Group managing director Ebadul Karim Bulbul, who will contest from Brahmanbaria-5 (Nabinagar), also submitted their nomination papers at the office of the deputy commissioner and respective offices of the upazila nirbahi officer.
BNP candidate Mushfiqur Rahman was nominated for Brahmanbaria-4 , BNP finance affairs secretary Khaled Hossain Mahboob Shaymal for Brahmanbaria-3, and BNP assistant international affairs secretary Rumin Farhana for Brahmanbaria-2 submitted their nomination papers at the office of the deputy commissioner.
Brahmanbaria deputy commissioner Hayat-Ud-Dowllah Khan said they distributed an adequate number of nomination papers among the willing candidates, A total of 28 candidates submitted their nomination papers to returning officers for contesting the next parliamentary election from three constituencies in Manikganj.
From the morning, the candidates, along with the local leaders and activists, started arriving at the deputy commissioner's office in the district.
Seven candidates submitted their nomination papers from the Manikganj-1(Ghior-Daulatpur-Shibalaya) constituency. The candidate’s are: AL-nominated incumbent MP AM Naimur Rahman Durjoy, BNP-nominated Khondaker Abdul Hamid Dablu, district BNP organising secretary SA Kabir Jinnah, district BNP joint secretary Tojammel Haque Toza, Bangladesh Muslim League-nominated Md Faruk Hossain Asad, Islami Andolon Bangladesh-nominated Khorshed Alom, JSD (Inu)-nominated Afjal Hossain Khan Joki-JSD and former AL lawmaker BM Anowarul Hoque.
Seven candidates submitted their nomination papers from the Manikganj-2 (Singair-Harimampur) constituency. They are: AL-nominated incumbent MP Momotaj Begum, BNP-nominated Moinul Islam Khan Shanto, Singair upazila chairman Abidur Rahman Khan Roman, Ferdous Ahmed Asib from Bangladesh Torikot Federation, JP (Ershad)-nominated SM Abdul Mannan, Mohammed Ali of Islami Andolon Bangladesh, Bikolpodhara Bangladesh-nominated Golam Sarower Milon and two independent candidates named Mosharof Hossain and Masum Mia.
In the Manikganj-3 (Manikganj Sadar-Saturia) constituency, the candidates are: AL-nominated incumbent MP Alhaj Zahid Malek Sawpon, district BNP president Afroza Khan Rita, Sadar upazila Jubo Dal chairman Md Ataur Rahman Ata, Mofizul Islam Khan Kamal of Gono Foram, Ibrahim Hossain of Islami Andolon Bangladesh, Din Mohammed Khan of Jaker Party, Zohirul Alom Rubel of JP (Ershad) and Rafiqul Islam Ovi of Bangladesh Biplobi Workers.
