Fast-bowler Ebadat Hossain’s career-best six-wicket haul helped Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB)-North Zone restrict Walton Central Zone to 220 on the opening day of the second round fixture in the franchise-based Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogura yesterday.
Elsewhere, at the Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium, Shamsur Rahman Shuvo smashed 153 as Islami Bank East compiled 314 for four against Prime Bank South Zone before the bails were drawn for the day.
North Zone vs Central Zone
BCB North Zone captain Jahurul Islam Omi invited his Central Zone counterpart Nazmul Hossain Shanto to bat first on Bogura’s surface after winning the toss. But they fell into bowling devastation from North Zone’s bowlers especially Ebadot Hossain.
Even though Ebadot started the proceeding of attack, Mohor Sheikh Antor brought the first breakthrough for North Zone when the right-arm young pacer dislodged Liton Kumar cheaply.
In the space of 15 runs, Central Zone, therefore, lost three wickets, the first two of which claimed by Ebadot, who exploded his devastation removing captain Shanto before the dismissal of Marshall Ayub, who departed for two-ball duck that slumped to 4-24.
Abdul Mazid attempted to handle the batting collapse together with fellow batsmen and hit a couple of useful partnerships including an invaluable 91 runs fifth-wicket with Shuvagata Hom, who fell two runs shy of fifty and another 43 with Jaker Ali for the sixth-wicket stand.
Ebadot was accountable for Shuvagata and Sunzamul Islam for Jaker. The national discarded all-rounder clattered 66-ball 48 that contained eight boundaries.
Since then, Mosharraf Hossain Rubel extended the total and crossed the 200-run mark but Ebadot razed the tail-enders to complete his best first class bowling figures. The paceman removed Rubel and Abu Haider Rony with his two successive deliveries after he turned Shahidul Islam as his fourth prey.
The right-arm young pacer conceded 51 runs to claim his six-wicket scalps. Ziaur Rahman grabbed two, while Mohor Sheikh and Sunzamul Islam took a wicket each. BCB North Zone, in reply, scored 72 for one with Mizanur Rahman making 34 and Farhad Hossain batting on 31 not out.
East Zone vs South Zone
National discarded Shamsur Rahman dominated the bowlers of the holders. He shared a string of successful partnerships before his dismissal. The opener clouted a useful 99 fourth-wicket with Tasamul Haque, another 92 runs with Rony Talukdar for the opening-stand and 65 with Mahmud Hasan for the second wicket. Though Mahmudul Hasan was out for 21, Rony got out for 56. But Shuvo struck a snail-paced 153 off 228 that littered with 17 fours and two sixes before caught behind.
