JP to publish final list on December 9

The Jatiya Party (JP-Ershad) will publish its final list of candidates on the last day of candidature withdrawal date on December 9, in line with the Awami League (AL)-led Grand Alliance.

“We are leaving many seats in the coming national polls considering the Grand Alliance. So, many deprived candidates may spread false and motivated allegations out of anger. Some of them with ulterior motive are creating confusion and trying to blacken the image of the party’s top leaders,” JP secretary general ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader told reporters during a briefing at party chairman HM Ershad’s Banani political office yesterday (Wednesday).

He said the final list of candidates will be published on December 9.

“We will be able to know which party gets how many seats in the Grand Alliance. So, it'S now tough to say the exact number of seats for the coming national polls,” he said in reply to a query.

He further said there is no confusion inside the Grand Alliance. “The JP will take part the national election as part of the Grand Alliance. All unresolved issues will be removed through discussion,” he added.

Around 200 JP candidates were given nomination letters, he said, adding that the nomination papers will be withdrawn after seat sharing is confirmed.

On Tuesday, the AL had shown the green light to the JP to share 47 seats.

The health condition of party chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad is good, the JP secretary general said.

“Our chairman, HM Ershad, is now fine and healthy. He has been to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) for a regular health check-up. We hope Sir (Ershad) will return home from the hospital within a couple of days,” he added.

Ershad has long been receiving treatment in Singapore, but now he is not going there due to the national election.
