Two get life for killing student in Kishoreganj

A court yesterday convicted two people and sentenced them to life term imprisonment for killing college student Shafiq Azad in 1999.
The convicts are Piplu and Sajib, son of Fazlur Rahman Mallik of the area. The court also fined them Tk 10,000, in default, to suffer six months more rigorous imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, Shafiq Azad, a first year student of Accounting Department at Wali Newaz Khan College, was hacked to deathby a group of miscreants at Jalsa Mor area in the upazila around 7:30.
Soon after the murder, victim's uncle Alamin filed a case was filed with KishoreganjSadar Model Police Station in this connection.
Police submitted charge sheet against four people after investigation.
After examining the records and witnesses, Additional District and Sessions Judge Md Abu Taher handed down the verdict acquitting four other accused.
Schoolboy found dead
UNB, Gopalganj
A schoolboy was found dead beside a hatchery at Loharanko village in Kotalipara upazila on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Raisul Islam Jisan, 9, son of Fazlul Haq Mollah and a class four student of Tarshi Government Primary School. Locals spotted the body near a hatchery and informed the matter to police, said Kamrul Faruk, officer-in-charge of Kotalipara Police Station.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Golapganj Sadar General Hospital for an autopsy.
Police suspected that Jisan might have died after sustaining head injuries while riding bicycle.
Stalker arrested in Jamalpur

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a stalker from the district town on Tuesday.
RAB sources said, on receipt a complaint from locals, a team of the crime busting force raided West Nayapara area in the town and arrested Md Zahidul Islam, 35, on charges of eve-teasing.
The sources said Zahidul Islam, son of Abdul Bari of Dapunia area of the town, was involved in eve-teasing for a long time.
Despite pending a number of complaints against the stalker with the local police, Zahidul could escape arrest till yesterday. A case was registered with Jamalpur Sadar Police station in this regard.
23 arrested in Dinajpur

Law enforcers, in special drives arrested 23 persons including nine drug traders and an activist of Jamaat-E-Islami from different areas of the district in last 12-hour ending at 8am yesterday morning.
Law enforcers also seized 240 bottles of Phensidyl and 350 liters of locally-made liquor during the drives.
Police said they were picked up from different areas of the district on different charges.
During the drives, Dinajpur Sadar police arrested four persons including two drug traders along with 350 liters of locally-made liquor, Birganj Thana police arrested two persons, Khansama Thana police arrested two persons, Phulbari Thana police arrested one person, Parbatipur Thana police arrested three persons, Bochaganj Thana police arrested two persons, Nawabganj Thana police arrested an activist of Jamaat-E-Islam, Kaharole Thana police arrested one person and Ghoraghat Thana police arrested two drug traders along with 40 bottles of Phensidyl.
Several cases, including charges of subversive activities, are pending with different police stations against the arrested persons, the sources added.
Meanwhile, members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive detained five drug traders along with 200 bottles of Phensidyl around 6am from Hili Railway Station in Hakimpur upazila of the district.
