4 ‘thieves’ held in Laxmipur   

UNB, Laxmipur

Police arrested four suspected members of a gang of thieves from different areas of district town and Begumganj upazila in Noakhali district yesterday morning.

The arrestees are Shahin Alam, Mizan, Nur Islam and Abdur Rahim, hailing from Bhola district and accused in several cases including rape, snatching, robbery and murder.

On information, a team of police arrested Shahin from the hospital road area in the morning, said Solaiman, in-charge of Laxmipur district police outpost.

Following his information, police arrested three others from a hotel in Begumganj upazila.

Elderly woman found dead

UNB, Bagerhat

Police recovered the body of an unidentified elderly woman from a pond in Charbaniari village of Chitalmari upazila yesterday morning.

The age of the deceased was around 70 years and was mentally challenged.

Locals spotted the body in the morning and informed it to police, said Anukul Chandra Sarker, officer-in-charge of Chitalmari Police Station.

Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital.

Man arrested with arms, yaba

Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested a man with arms from Akua area of Mymensingh early yesterday.

The arrestee was identified as Md Abdullah Al Mamun alias Ratan Member, 45, of Talma area in Mymensingh sadar upazila.  A team of DB police led by Sub-Inspector Habibur Rahman raided the area and arrested Ratan. They also seized a local gun, two rounds of cartridges and 60 pieces of yaba tablets from his possession, said Shah Kamal Akanda, officer-in-charge of DB, Mymensingh.

Ratan is accused in four cases, including a drug related case, filed with Kotwali Police Station, said the OC.

He was produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate Court yesterday afternoon with a seven-day remand prayer. Hearing on the prayer was not held and the court sent him to jail, the OC informed.
