BSS Managing Editor Shahriar Shahid passes away

Managing Editor (ME) of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Shahriar Shahid who was undergoing treatment at a city hospital passed away yesterday. He was 55.

Shahriar, son of former editor of now defunct Bangladesh Times AKM Shahidul Haque, was admitted to Apollo Hospitals in the city on November 14 following a heart attack. He was undergoing treatment at critical care unit (CCU).

He is survived by his wife, lone son and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death. His body will be kept at the mortuary of Apollo Hospitals till November 19. The burial will take place after arrival of his two sisters from Canada.

On Monday morning his body will be taken to his workplace national news agency BSS. His first namaz-e-janaza will be held after Zohr prayer on Monday at National Press Club and second janaza after Magreb prayer at Gorashal, Narsingdi prior to the burial at family graveyard there.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and President M Abdul Hamid have expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of eminent journalist Shahriar Shahid. In a separate condolence messages, they prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family. President and General Secretary of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) also condoled the death of its founding member Shahriar and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
