Bangladesh eliminated

Bangladesh women’s cricket team eliminated from ICC World T20 as Sri Lanka thrashed them by 25 runs in the low- scoring Group-A fixture at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium at Gros Islet, St. Lucia yesterday.

This was third successive loss of the Tigresses, who earlier conceded a comprehensive 60-run defeat to hosts and holders West Indies before losing to England by seven wickets (DLS).

After losing to Sri Lanka, they have a group phase match left that turned to be dead rubber for them. On November 18, they will play that inconsequential match against South Africa at the same ground. Bangladesh captain Salma Khatun invited her Sri Lankan counterpart Chamari Atapattu Jayangani to bat first on St. Lucia’s wicket. The decision Salma took was initially succeeded as they restricted them fewer than 100.

Fast bowler Jaharana Alam fumbled Sri Lanka women in the first ball of the innings. Though they, thereafter dislodged wickets, Shashikala Siriwardene (31), wicket-keeper Dilani Manodara Surangika(16), captain Chamari Atapattu Jayangani (12) and Nilakshi de Silva (12) helped them muster 97-7 in 20 overs.

Fast bowler Jahanara Alam was the most successful bowler of Bangladesh claimed three wickets for 21 in her four-over quota. Off-spinner Khadija Tul Kubra, Salma Khatun and Fahima Khatun bagged a wicket each.
