Zimbabwe head coach Lalhand Rajput on Wednesday said that they could save the Test match if they can bat session by session against Bangladesh on the fifth and final day of the Dhaka Test.
Rajput believes that anything can be happened in cricket because of the nature of the game.
Citing the example of the recent Pakistan-Australia Test result, Zimbabwean coach said that Khawaja Usman save the match batting almost throughout the day.
“Cricket is a game of uncertainties. You never know what will happen. It just takes one or two big partnerships. It’s happened many occasions in pat,” said Lalchand Rajput.
“If you look at the earlier games like Pakistan Australia, they really saved a Test match. Khawaja batted the whole day. So we hope somebody stands up and bats a session, because it’s just a question of three sessions,” Lalchand told media.
“If you can bat one session, then slowly we can [do it]. But we’ll be positive, and hopefully we can save the Test match,” he added.
In this case, players’ mindset could play a pivotal role as Rajput said that if they play keeping it in right, it’ll be possible to save the match.
“We don’t think about the pitch now. You just have to go to a mindset that you play on the merit of the ball. The pitch is not in our control, it’s uncontrollable, so the main thing is to back your defence, back your instinct, play the ball on merit,” he said.
“If the ball pops up or something, it’s unfortunate, but at least you’re there to try and defend. Hopefully we go with a positive frame of mind to play each and every ball as it comes, and play sessions. Wait for the loose deliveries. You’ve got to try and score runs as well, and hopefully we bat sessions,” he continued.
“We have done well with the new ball. Jarvis and Chatara have bowled exceptionally well. If you look at the wicket, when the ball is hard it does a wee bit, but when the ball becomes soft it becomes easier for the batsmen to play.”
“That was one aspect, and we were unfortunate that Chatara got injured in the first innings so we were one bowler short. But again today we bowled well with the new ball, both Tiripano and Jarvis.”
