Stocks witnessed upward trend yesterday as major indices of both Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges were found rising trend with higher activities of some large-cap securities despite lower transactions.
The rising major sectors were food and allied, textile and pharmaceuticals and chemical.
A total of 113 large cap securities moved up on higher activities.
The broader DSEX index of the DSE closed the session with 19.87 points up at 5,278.98. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 followed the same trend with 4.95 points up at 1,215.42 and with 9.20 point up at 1,868.30 respectively.
The volume of shares decreased to 12.87 crore from Thursday’s 15.02 crore shares and the daily turnover in value at the DSE declined to Tk 527.44 crore from Thursday’s Tk 593.70 crore.
At the DSE, price of 149 securities out of the day’s 333 closed higher against 131 losing issues.
The major gaining issues were Fine Foods, GQ Ball Pen, FEKDIL, Libra Infusion and Style Craft. The major losing issues were INTRACO, Saiham Textile, EASTERNLUB, Legacy Foot and KPCL.
KPCL topped the turnover leaders followed by SKTRIMS, BBS Cables, Shepherd and Shasha Denims.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with upward trend with its major CASPI 85.09 points up at 16,186.17.
At the CSE, 244 issues were traded. Of those, 131 closed higher and 83 closed lower when 66.67 lakh shares worth Tk 1.98 crore changed hands.
