BCB warms up for staging BCL

As soon as ending the National Cricket League (NCL), Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Tournament Committee is planning to start the franchise-based Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) for the 2018 season.

They meanwhile have given a tentative date for the longer version cricket league. As per the date, the BCL was slated to roll onto the grounds from November 15.

But it is learnt from the BCB insiders that the league will not be held on November 15 because the selectors are yet to ready the squad for the BCL. But it might get underway in the last week of the current month.

BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu acknowledged the matter of not preparing the BCL squad. Nannu told The Independent that they will ready the squad for the BCL just after the practice match against the West Indies.

“We were busy with the ongoing Test series against Zimbabwe and National Cricket League. So, we are yet to prepare the squad for the BCL,” said Minhajul Abedin Nannu.

“We will soon sit with the team management. Hopefully we could be ready it after the practice match what will be held on November 18-19 against the visiting West Indies,” Nannu told this reporter over phone.

“The practice match, a two-day affair, will take place at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chattogram,” he added.

The Caribbean side is due to travel here directly in Chattogram on November 15 to play a full-fledged bilateral series against the host Bangladesh.

The series comprising two-Test series along with the three-match ODI series and a one-off Twenty20 International.
